GPS Surveyor – Privacy Policy
GPS Surveyor shows your GPS coordinates, lets you save waypoints and record routes, and lets you export them. This policy explains what information the app uses and where it goes. In short: your location data stays on your phone. The app has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and the developer does not receive your data.
Information the app uses
- Precise and approximate location. Used to show your current coordinates, to save waypoints you choose to save, and to record routes you start. Location is only used while the app is open, or while a route recording you started is running (shown by a notification with a Stop button). The app does not request background location access.
- Waypoints and routes you save. Coordinates, altitude, accuracy, time and any names or notes you type. These are stored only in the app's private storage on your device.
- App settings such as your preferred coordinate format and recording interval, stored on your device.
What leaves your device
- Nothing is sent to the developer. The app has no server and collects no personal data.
- Exports you choose to make. When you tap Share or Save, the app creates a GPX, KML, CSV or GeoJSON file and hands it to the app or folder you pick (for example email, WhatsApp, Google Drive or your Downloads folder). What happens next is governed by that app or service.
- Map tiles. To draw maps, the app downloads map images from OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) or OpenTopoMap (opentopomap.org). Like any web request, these servers receive your device's IP address and the map area being viewed. They do not receive your GPS coordinates from the app. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
- Google Play services location. On devices with Google Play services, the app uses Google's location service to improve accuracy. If "Google Location Accuracy" is turned on in your phone's settings, Google may process Wi-Fi and mobile-network signals as described in Google's privacy policy. You control this setting on your phone.
Data retention and deletion
Saved waypoints and routes stay on your device until you delete them in the app (Saved → item → Delete). Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes all of its data. Because the developer never receives your data, there is nothing for the developer to delete.
Permissions
- Location (precise/approximate): core functionality described above.
- Notifications: to show the ongoing notification while a route is being recorded.
- Foreground service (location): so a recording you start keeps working with the screen off.
- Internet / network state: to download map tiles.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security
Data is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read. Exported files are only created when you ask for them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
